How to choose your speaker and auto amplifier?

Stuck in the plugs, you want to enjoy your music with a quality sound rather than with the old sound of your car radio?
In this case, what you need is a good speaker. Is not that enough? So add a car amp and enjoy your music as if you were at a concert. To choose your car kit, several points must be taken into account.

Amplifier

The amplifier is an electronic device whose role is to increase the power of the audio signal. It increases the voltage and the intensity of the signal provided by your source to increase the dynamics, the power, the softness, the bandwidth and more generally the sound quality. It replaces the small module advantageously integrated into your source which is satisfied with the voltage of the battery and a weak intensity to try to control the speakers. Unlike a car stereo, an external amplifier is equipped with a transformer which makes it possible to raise the voltage (and the quality) of operation.

Choose you Amplifier

An amplifier is essential for a quality installation. There are different types of speakers for various uses. Their effectiveness differs significantly.
➤Class A is very low efficiency is held for domestic use.

➤Class B is used in the majority of car audio amplifiers. It is an excellent compromise between softness, sound quality, and efficiency. This type of amp is usually used for front and rear speakers.
➤Class D shines through its high efficiency: it provides more sound and consumes less power. It heats lesser than others. Less qualitative, but more quantitative, people use this class of amplification very often for the reproduction of the low frequencies (Subwoofer).

An amplifier is characterized by different parameters:
➧Power: It must be adapted to the power that can be borne by the loudspeaker that is connected. To operate properly, an HP must have the same RMS power as the amp (Hp 50W RMS -> amp 50W RMS). Pay attention to the impedance that causes the power amps to vary heavily.

➧Number of channels: A 2-channel amplifier can amplify right and left in front or back, a 4-channel amplifier such as the Oxygen Spiral F 200.4 4-channel amplifier, or a 5-channel amplifier such as Boss-Audio CE2505 can amplify right and left front and rear, an individual mono block can usually amplify one or two subwoofers. But beware, there are mono channel amplifiers, such as the MTX TH-1500D mono channel amplifier, capable of amplifying speakers.
➧Signal to Noise Ratio: This is the measurement of the level of background noise added to the original signal by the amplifier. The higher the value, the better the amp is built (-85dB is better than -75dB).
➧THD + Noise (Distortion Rate by Harmonic): This is the difference between the original signal and the amplified signal. The lower this rate is (THD = 0.01%), the more reliable and efficient the amp.

Speaker

The Speaker is an electromechanical transducer that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy and acoustic energy (sound). It is a preponderant element in sound quality. It's layers of origin are usually made of paper. They do not stand up to the power and humidity of the car. The more sophisticated and more qualitative models use membranes made of polypropylene, fiberglass, carbon fiber, titanium, aluminum or magnesium. To refine the quality of reproduction and to adapt to different frequencies, there are several types of HP.

Tweeter

The tweeter speaker is the smallest HP of the car. It's membrane measures between 12 and 30mm in diameter. It is responsible for reproducing high frequencies (high frequencies) between 5000 and 20000Hz approximately. The domes in silks, titanium, aluminum or fiber are synonymous with quality.

Medium

The midrange speaker is the HP responsible for reproducing midrange frequencies between 500 and 5000Hz approximately. It commonly measures between 50 and 100mm. In cars, it is usually the woofer that is in charge of reproducing these frequencies for reasons of cost and space.

Woofer

The woofer speaker is the HP in charge of reproducing the bass between 50 and 500Hz approximately. It generally measures between 100 and 165mm. It reproduces nearly 80% of the sound. It is, therefore, crucial in the quality of sound reproduction. For reasons of cost, the first vehicles often use wideband loudspeakers (without tweeters). Replacing them with two-way quality (HP) speakers is staggering!

➯What depends on the quality of your HP

The larger the speaker diameter, the better sound it will produce. The lower the resonance frequency, the better the HP will operate in the low range. If your vehicle is equipped with particular tweeter location, do not hesitate to choose the kit solution that gives far more realistic results in terms of sound stage, placement, and precision. The more the speaker supports RMS power, the more it will allow you to listen very comfortably.

The quality of your Speaker will, therefore, depend on:

⧭Of the number of channels, the more channels the sound reproduction will be good, the tweeter for the treble, the woofer for the low.
⧭Of the separation of the tracks, it is better to separate the acute ones of the bass for a better sonority.

Subwoofer

The subwoofer is a loudspeaker specialized in serious infra. It is in charge of reproducing very low frequencies between 20 and 80Hz. Its diameter frequently varies from 20cm to 38cm. The sub is the largest HP of the installation. It is often unique because it is impossible to set the stereo under 300Hz. It 's hard to localisable (the opposite of a tweeter for example). A high-end installation must incorporate a subwoofer. He adds what is still lacking to an original installation: the low. It is also a significant generator of emotion.

The allowable RMS power of a subwoofer must be aligned with the RMS power of the amplifier to which it is connected (A sub accepts 250W RMS mounts with an amp producing 250W RMS).

The empty Caisson

As its name suggests it is just the subwoofer without a built-in speaker, you can install a good subwoofer.

Equalizer

The equalizer is the essential companion of the subwoofer. It is used to isolate the rear wave from the subwoofer. It optimizes the sound and makes it possible to exploit to the maximum the qualities of your sub. Without a equalizer , the bass level is greatly diminished and of lower quality.

The larger the equalizer diameter, the more comfortable the subwoofer will be at low frequencies, but it will also be slower and bulkier. The RMS power of a subwoofer must be aligned with the RMS power of the amplifier to which it is connected (A 250W RMS-compatible subwoofer mounts with an amp producing 250W RMS). The subwoofer can be recognized by its strong structure and large diameter.

Amplified box

The amplified box incorporates three components. It simplifies as much as possible the assembly by reducing the wiring and the installation of the different components. No need to cut the sub hole, no need to fix the amplifier, no need to wire for hours. Everything is in a perfectly calculated and balanced box. This "all-in-one" solution also minimizes congestion in the vehicle because the amplifier is integrated into the box. It is the simple and practical solution to add what is missing most to an installation, especially original: the low!

If you want to improve your musical experience building new sound system, you must take into account this essential information in your mind.
